WELCOME
Sacred Heart School is a co-educational primary school located in the coastal town of Yeppoon.  At Sacred Heart School, we endeavour to hold the message of Jesus Christ at the heart of all we do. This message permeates our relationships, decisions, our teaching and learning.

Sacred Heart is a school where our children are nurtured spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, physically and culturally.  We offer a myriad of learning opportunities including instrumental music and choral programs, a well-developed Arts program, sports including netball, soccer, rugby league, swimming and AFL, the teaching of Japanese and the MJR (Making Jesus Real) program.

We hope you enjoy perusing our website.

COMMUNITY NEWS

THANK YOU TO OUR "HEART PARENTS"
Information sessions are an important part of Sacred Heart as this gives teachers and parents a chance to discuss the year and to get to know each other. More importantly, we also get to know the ‘Heart Parents’ for each class.

The ‘Heart Parents’ play an important role in the development of the relationships at Sacred Heart. This entails:
  • Welcoming new parents to the school
  • A person who can be called upon for information eg The colour shirt that your child needs for sports day,
  • Class/Year level social event - morning tea for parents
  • Organise support when families may need it - eg new baby in the family
  • If available - help out on special occasions

A welcoming school encourages positivity and community.  The 2020 Heart Parents are listed in our latest newsletter.  Thank you to these wonderful volunteers for your service to our school. It is greatly appreciated.

Lord be with and bless our Heart Parents. In their service, give them strength and by your Spirit, give them grace. May the love they give be returned to them in greater numbers and may your joy fill their hearts. Amen.

SHROVE / PANCAKE TUESDAY
The day before Lent commences is known as Pancake (or Shrove) Tuesday. This year, it is Tuesday 25th February.  A day when traditionally pancakes were made to use up all the eggs, milk and lard before the Lenten fast began when people not only cut back on food but also ate very simply.

Proceeds from Pancake Tuesday will go to the Project Compassion Appeal. Please support this worthy cause.
Breakfast commences at 7.45am in our multi-purpose area. Pancakes are $1 each and poppers are $1. All invited.

ASH WEDNESDAY
Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes, in a cross, on the forehead. The ashes symbolise the dust from which God made us and is a reminder that we will return to God one day.

On Wednesday 26th February, students and staff will be involved in Ash Wednesday liturgies or the parish mass.
  • Children in Years 4-6 will attend the 9am mass at Sacred Heart Church.
  • Children in Prep – Year 3 will participate in year level liturgies throughout the day as follows:
    • Prep: 12:30pm at school
    • Year 1: 11:45am at school
    • Year 2: 10:15am at school
    • Year 3: 9am at school

All are welcome to attend any of these services to mark the beginning of Lent.
